boho instagram, vintage instagram, bohemian instagram, hippie instagram, unique instagram, alternative instagram

Forgive the patheticness of my Instagram this week, and my blog posting as well.  I've just had zero motivation for blogging and taking pretty Instagram photos.  But literally all I have done this week is go on nights out and lay in bed, lazing around all day.  Boo me.  Job hunting must start again tomorrow.  And posting on the blog starts again today.  I'm planing to take lots of outfit photos today too.  This week will be a little more productive than last week...

Cosy Corner

Wall Hangings - Amazon/eBay
Fairy Lights - Primark

This is the only half decent bit of my not very nice student room.  I'm sorry, but why would you decorate a house with green carpets and magnolia walls, of all the carpets and paint colours there are to choose from...  I really hate magnolia.  What's wrong with white???

I decided to cover the wall next to my bed with something a little nicer than the colour magnolia, and a wall hanging was the obvious choice, because they look amazing.  I got this one off of Amazon for about a tenner - bargainous.  The wall hanging across the top of my ceiling makes it all the more cosy, and it's fun waking up to see a mandala pattern every morning.  The fairy lights hanging across are from Primark - I do wish they were longer so I could hang them across more times, but they'll do.

I've had  the polaroid/fairy light combo up for a while now.  I got the idea off of Pinterest - where else? It looks cute, although I am running out of space on the wire now so a new one may have to be started elsewhere...

Annnnnnddd I have about ten million gazillion pillows (which I forgot to photograph properly) because they are literally the most comfy thing to lay on.

24 May 2015

This week I found the best vintage oversized shirt (this post), that also kinda looks like a kimono - bonus points.  I am very much looking forward to wearing it at festivals.  Speaking of festivals, a text popped up from my mum on my phone yesterday; my Glastonbury tickets have made their way safely to my house.  Excellent.  Can't wait to see those babies when I go home next week - does anyone else get excited to see what their festival/gig etc... tickets are going to look like?  Festival tickets are always the prettiest.  Although, I'm not too excited about seeing the photo, because I registered like three years ago, so god knows what it will look like.

In other blogging news, it's The Velvet Black's first bday today.  Starting a blog was literally the most spur of the moment thing.  I've realised I'm quite an impulsive person, like I'll get an idea in my head and do it as soon as I can.  Not all my impulse decisions have been good decisions, but this was a very good one, I do say so myself.

Free Bird

Shirt - Vintage
Top - Camden Market
Levi's Shorts - Urban Outfitters
Shoes - Primark
Eclipse Necklace - Rogue & Wolf

About five minutes ago I was listening to Free Bird by Lynard Skynard, until I was rudely interrupted by the door bell.  Stoopid doorbell.  I haven't listened to that song in forever, and I thought it would make a good title for this outfit post - I dunno.

Look at me, I went vintage shopping again.  I'm not sorry, I should be because I have car insurance to pay and I will be poor, but I am not sorry.  This shirt is just perf - I can't wait to wear it buttoned up as a shirt dress, with a thin belt round my waist on a hot & sunny day.  But for now, it can serve as a bringer of colour to an otherwise all black outfit.  I used to LOVE wearing all black, but I've kind of gone off it now.  Apart from nights out, I will never stop wearing all black on nights out.

I picked up this lace/crochet hybrid of a top over a year ago at a market stall in Camden, and I swear I've only worn it once.  I always do this - I'll buy something then decide I don't like it after one wear.  Fast forward a couple of months, or a couple of years, whichever, I'll be hooked on it.  I feel I'll be wearing it rather a lot this summer, but with cutesy lace bras underneath.

3 Festival Makeup Looks

Too Blue

Products used:
Maybelline: Lash Sensational
The Body Shop: Colour Crush 315
Wilkinsons: Blue Gems

Possibly my favourite of the three, I started off my using the shade Azure from the MUA Matte Palette, pretty much putting it all round my eyes, bringing it above the crease and below my lower lash line.  I did not hold back with this shade, it's so pretty.  I then packed on Dove Grey into the inner corner of each eye, and blended Midnight into the crease and outer edge.  I should have really taken an eye closed photo, because the pale to dark blue gradient looks so mermaidy.  I lightly lined my water line with an MUA Eye Pencil, to make them look a little bigger.

Has anyone used the Lash Sensational mascara yet?  I layered it on about three times, AND LOOK - eyelashes look so pretty and fluttery!  I genuinely think this is the best mascara I have ever used.

I used eyelash glue to stick 6 blue gems along the bottom of my eyes, and up to my eyebrows.  I worked out that this going to be perfect for hiding the inevitable dark circles - score.  I thought a subtle nude lip would be best, so the main focus stays on those eyes.

Gem Crazy

Products Used:
Maybelline: Lash Sensational
The Body Shop: Colour Crush 315
Wilkinsons: Gems

Very OTT I know, but I saw something similar to this on one of my Pinterest rampages and I couldn't resist recreating in... I used the coral/pink shade from the MUA Glitter Ball Palette all over my lid, and brought it down slightly beneath my lower lash line, and did three coats of the Lash Sensational mascara.  Again, I stuck to a subtle nude lip, because it would have looked waaaayyy too much otherwise.  Then, things got sequiney...  I went a bit mad and stuck lots of the pretty round, flower, and star gems down one side of my forehead, and used the tiniest gems down the side of my nose.  I'm not too sure if I'll actually be doing this at festivals, because it was very fiddly, but it looks soooo cool nonetheless.

The Glitter Cat Eye

Products Used:
Collection: Glam Crystals Gel Liner
Maybelline: Lash Sensational
Maybelline: Colour Sensational - Pleasure Me Red

Definitely the most wearable, in fact I would probably wear this on a night out.  I piled on loads of the Collection Gel Liner, putting it way above the crease and creating a thick cat eye flick,  I also lightly swiped the brush along my lower lash line to add a hint of glitter below the eye.  One last time with the Lash Sensational, because it's deffo my fave, and a bold red lip using a Maybelline Colour Sensational lipstick.  I think silver and red goes so well together!

I Love To Fool Around

Top - Vintage
Button Down Skirt - Urban Outfitters
Shoes & Socks - Primark
Belt - Vintage eBay

There is a cute little vintage shop around the corner from where I live, and I want it too be my wardrobe.  Most of the pieces there are a bit expensive, including this amazing tan and white cow print bag WITH tan fringing along the bottom.  Like proper cow girl/western/70's style - I wanted it but couldn't justify parting with £40 for a bag that little that I would probably only use on the odd evening/night out.  Damn my rational thinking and spending.  They do have a rather large selection of t-shirts for only a tenner, including this ringer tee.  I love how 70's it looks with the button down skirt.

Over the years, I have also come to find that eBay is a really good place to find vintage bargains.  Years ago I managed to snap up my vintage fringed leather jacket for only a tenner!  My latest find is this belt - £2.50!  I love the buckle!

17 May 2015

I'm gonna keep this extra short because I am extremely tired and hungry right now.  What is life.  I think the only half exciting thing I did last week was go vintage shopping, but I couldn't even afford anything because my student budget makes me poor.  If you are ever in Portsmouth and are in the mood for a bit of vintage shopping, go to One Legged Jockey - they literally have the most insane collection of leather jackets, there must be at least 50 different ones, fringing, studs 'n all.  I ended up settling for a 70s ringer tee, which was rather bargainous at a tenner.  Score.

Oh So Boho Barbecue

Harley Davidson Jacket - Charity Shop
Metallica Tee - Urban Outfitters (Old)
Denim Skirt - Charity Shop
Shoes - Converse
Fedora - H&M (Old)
Coin Necklace - Primark

I don't think I've ever used an instant barbecue before.  I know, shocker.  Especially seeing as in Portsmouth there is a massive stretch on the common labelled 'Barbecue Zone', barbecue bins an' all.  And I've managed to go my whole three years of uni of not using it.  Gd 1.  Well, I've decided that instant barbecues and I do not get along, but I think that was more my fault because we forgot to bring anything to turn all the foodies with, which resulted in burnt fingers all round.

On the bright side JUST LOOK AT THE BLANKET.   I am so into the bohemian hippie thing at the moment.  It's actually a wall hanging, that is currently hanging on my ceiling above my bed, but I thought we would look cool if we chilled on it, and we did.  But now it just has a lovely hint of barbecue to it - I didn't quite think that one through... At least we looked cool, right?

Also, how amazing is this Harley Davidson corduroy jacket? You do find some gems in charity shops - I have some better photos of it in this post.  Annnnnnnd I've been having some major luv for my Converse recently.  I do wish they where a bit on the comfier side of things, BUT they go with literally everything, is anyone else with me on this???  I love you Converse.

All The Texture

Crochet Top - Urban Outfitters (Old)
Jacket - Vintage
Skirt - H&M
Shoes - Converse
Over The Knee Socks - Primark

I feel like this outfit and my last outfit are very very similar.  I do apologize, but this crochet top is like, my fave thing right now.  I was wearing a leopard print triangle bra underneath, and I'm quite disappointed that the crochet completely drowns out the leopard.  As well, I'm pretty sure I managed to incorporate all the textures - crochet, lace, and these hole patterned over the knee socks - I know that there's a proper name for the holey pattern, I just can't think of it and it's annoying me.  Not cool.  I remember wearing tights like that to school in primary school - those were days.

This white lace skirt was a bit of an impulse buy, I'm not gonna lie.  I saw it and was just like 'I need that', discovered they didn't have my size after a hurried look through, then sped off to the till to buy the next size up.  Luckily, H&M sizing is NOT NORMAL, and their clothes all come up stupidly small - anyone else get this?  Like, it fits, I'm just not sure I like it.  Stupid impulse buys.  I think I managed to sufficiently toughen it up with the fringed leather jacket and converse though.  Also, I want to wear it to festivals but I'm 100% sure it will collect a few mud stains that won't want to ever come out.
